Out-of-town pool note #13 // Wheels down + gaggle transcript

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 11:23 PM EDT

AF1 was wheels down at JBA at 11:21 p.m. Eastern time. POTUS came back to the cabin early on in our flight, around 6:27 p.m. Arizona time, for about 13 minutes. Know the video/audio was already shared by the White House mid-flight, but highlights below, followed by a full transcript. Questions not necessarily verbatim. (A huge thank you to co-pooler Tamara Keith for helping with the audio!) Highlights: On his conver…

Out-of-town pool note #12 // Wheels up

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 7:46 PM EDT

AF1 is wheels up at 4:45pm. Dr. Oz was ahead of us in line as we boarded, and Jeanine Pirro was behind us. Your pooler is sure there are many other notables on board but has not gotten a list of travelers. Will be a late-night arrival back in DC. See you on the other side. Out-of-town pool note #11 // Back at AF1

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 7:36 PM EDT

Motorcade reached AF1 at 4:32pm. POTUS had already boarded the plane by the time your press pool arrived. We are boarding the plane and will be wheels up imminently. Will send you a wheels up note in a few, and keep an eye on the usual places in case we get a plane gaggle. Megan Messerly White House reporter POLITICO

Out-of-town pool note #10 // Rolling

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 7:19 PM EDT

Motorcade is rolling as of 4:17pm, presumably back to Luke Air Force Base. No eyes on POTUS getting back into the Beast. Megan Messerly White House reporter POLITICO

Out-of-town pool note #9 // Highlights from POTUS remarks

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 7:12 PM

POTUS’s remarks wrapped at 4:09pm, ending with him pulling Erika Kirk on stage for a hug. POTUS began his address by running through Charlie Kirk’s story — but the tone of the speech overall was very much that of a traditional Trump campaign rally and touched on his forthcoming autism announcement, tariffs and crime in U.S. cities. Some highlights, in chronological order: On Kirk’s shooter: “A radicalized cold-blood…

Out-of-town pool note #8 // POTUS takes the stage

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025 3:28 PM MST

POTUS took the stage at 3:24pm, as Lee Greenwood sings “God Bless the USA” live. It comes on the heels of emotional and tearful remarks from Erika Kirk, in which she shared Charlie Kirk’s life and faith — and said she forgives her husband’s shooter. During Erika Kirk's speech, your pooler saw folks laying their heads on each other’s shoulders, with their arms around one another and wiping tears away from their eyes…

Out-of-town pool note #7 // Don Jr’s impression

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025 2:23 PM MST

Donald Trump Jr. is up now. He just received a wild round of applause from the crowd for doing an impression of his father chastising his social media presence. The cameras in the room panned to Trump, who could be seen laughing at the impression from his box. The energy in the room feels more like a rally than a funeral, though I have spotted attendees at points lifting up their glasses to rub their eyes, or dabbin…

Out-of-town pool note #6 // POTUS enters the arena

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025 4:03 PM EDT

POTUS entered the arena at 12:56pm. He was greeted with cheers and chants of USA. From where your pool is stationed we can’t see POTUS, but we think he’s on the club level on the right hand side of the stage (when facing the stage) because that’s where the crowd turned when he entered. Also, the few obstructed view sections are now starting to fill in. Megan Messerly White House reporter POLITICO

Out-of-town pool note #5 // Stadium color

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 3:46 PM EDT

Pool arrived in the stadium proper at 12:20pm. No eyes on POTUS since arriving here. You can all see the visuals on the livestream, but it is packed to the rafters in here. I'd estimate only 100-200 empty seats in sections with an obstructed view of the main stage. (According to the stadium's website, it can be expanded to a capacity of 73,000 for "mega-events.) Otherwise, the seats are full up to the nosebleeds. Th…

Out-of-town pool note #4 // Arrival at State Farm Stadium

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 3:19 PM EDT

Motorcade arrived at State Farm Stadium at 12:16pm. Pool did not see POTUS get out of the Beast. Some onlookers came out to greet the motorcade on our brief drive through the Phoenix suburbs. Some were waving or recording. Others had American flags. Didn't appear to be any protesters -- either folks supportive or just curious. Heavy security presence as we entered the stadium grounds. Out-of-town pool note #3 // Rolling

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 3:00 PM EDT

POTUS descended the steps of AF1 at 11:56am local time. He did not stop to talk to the pool but mouthed "thank you" before getting into the Beast. Among we spotted getting off back of the plane: Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary Doug Burgum and Jared Kushner. (Thanks to fellow co-poolers for the assist!) The motorcade is rolling as of 11:58 am. Out-of-town pool note #2 // Wheels down in AZ

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025, 2:44 PM EDT

AF1 is wheels down at Luke Air Force Base at 11:42 am Arizona time. (Just west of the event site.) We had one brief tease that we’d get an appearance from POTUS at the back of the plane — but alas. No visitors during the uneventful 4 hour and 26 minute flight. Megan Messerly White House reporter POLITICO

In-Town Pool Note #3 — gaggle roughly verbatim

From Marc Novicoff Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025 10:37 AM

Here is the rough verbatim from the gaggle before POTUS took off in M1. POTUS: “We’re here to celebrate the life of a great man. Really a great man. A young man. We look forward to it. That something like this could’ve happened is not even believable. Will be a very interesting day. A very tough day.” Q: Will you fire Pam Bondi if Letitia James is not indicted? A: She’s doing a great job. Pam Bondi is doing a great…

Out-of-town pool note #1 // JBA departure

From Megan Messerly Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025 10:12 AM

Good morning and happy Sunday. M1 was wheels down at JBA at 10:05am. POTUS, sporting a red tie, waved at press at the bottom of the stairs and gave a fist pump at the top but did not stop to take questions. I'll be your pooler for today's trip to Glendale, Arizona, where POTUS, VPOTUS and many other White House and other administration officials are slated to speak at Charlie Kirk's memorial service at State Farm St…

From Marc Novicoff Sent Sunday, September 21, 2025 10:02 AM

Wheels up at 9:53 am. POTUS stopped next to the pool for a brief gaggle before taking off in M1. Fuller quotes to follow but he spoke about Charlie Kirk’s life and was asked about Letitia James, the Pentagon press restrictions, and Poland.
