This event will be open to pre-credentialed media who receive confirmation from the White House Press Office or the Office of the First Lady. Preset and arrival guidance will be provided to credentialed media prior to the event. Deadline to Request Credentials: Sunday, May 18, at 10:00 AM ET.
BACKGROUND:
The TAKE IT DOWN Act was a priority of First Lady Melania Trump’s BE BEST initiative, which passed Congress in the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, after Mrs. Trump gave momentum and support to the bill.
Prior to its passage, Mrs. Trump held a Capitol Hill Roundtable on Online Protection and the TAKE IT DOWN Act on March 3, 2025, with Members of Congress, survivors of non-consensual intimate imagery, families, and advocates for online protection. The following night, the President mentioned the bill in his Address to a Joint Session of Congress.
The First Lady continued to engage with Members of Congress on the bill throughout its passage in the House Energy and Commerce Committee on April 9, 2025, and on final passage in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 28, 2025.
