As the president and first lady took the stage, a group of individuals wearing “250 special guest” badges positioned immediately behind the press pen (which is directly across from POTUS) began singing “Happy Birthday.” The event officially celebrates the 250^th birthday of the Army but it is also the 79^th birthday of the president.
Others shouted “USA” then and as the national anthem concluded.
The parade could be seen starting in the distance at 6:14 pm and reached Trump at about 6:16pm. The president, who was standing, looked on, and then raised his hand in a salute and left it there, as the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own” passed by him.
He is seated as of 6:17 pm watching the parade from his seat in the reviewing stand.
