Vice President Vance took the stage in the sweltering hangar around 2:00 pm to applause from the audience.
The event was open press, but your pooler has put together a few highlights. Please check quotes against transcript/recording.
News: Vance spoke about the shooting at the ICE facility in Dallas. Quote: "We're all mourning and rooting for and praying for everybody who was injured at that ICE facility, and as far as we know, it looks like some of the detainees, in other words, some of the potential illegal aliens were some of those who are affected. Look, just because we don't support illegal aliens, we don't want them to be executed by violent assassins engaged in political violence."
Other quotes/highlights:
“It’s a little hot in here,” Vance said at the top, thanking law enforcement officers, some of whom were standing in uniform behind the stage. “We love ya,” he said.
Vance said criminals who are threatening families should have their “asses” sent to prison.
Vance spoke about the Trump administration bringing the National Guard into Washington, DC and Memphis. “We stand for American safety everywhere,” he said.
Vance said state and local jurisdictions that restrict the ability for police to do their work needed to be punished.
Vance spoke about Charlie Kirk, who he said believed in open debate and gave his life for that principle. “His loss was the nation’s loss,” Vance said. What happened to Charlie was disgusting and a disgrace, Vance said to applause.
Vance said he thought most Democrats also wanted safety in their communities but followed that by asserting that Democrats want to let criminals out of prison while Republicans want to put them in prison.
Vance said generally that if your political rhetoric encourages violence against law enforcement then “you can go straight to hell.” He said Democrats needed to stop saying that everyone who disagrees with them is a Nazi. That is the way to stop political violence, he said.
“I’ve hit my quotient for cuss words today,” Vance said when an audience member used a curse word in a shouted response.
