President Trump and PM Albanese have been taking a lot of questions. More to come on that.
There was an awkward moment when an Australian reporter asked about comments made by Australia’s ambassador to the US, Kevin Rudd, a former Labor prime minister.
Background here:
Trump indicated he didn’t know anything about it, and then, without realising Rudd was in the room, asked where that ambassador was now.
When he realised the ambassador was sitting right in front him, he said: “I don’t like you either - and I probably never will.”
In other news, Trump has given the AUKUS defence pact his strong endorsement, promising Australia will get the nuclear-powered submarines it is due to get in the 2030s.
