Kevin Hassett, director of the national economic council, stopped and took some questions in front of the White House after a television hit.

He was asked about whether Americans can expect rebate checks, Trump's claims about grocery prices, whether the president supports reversing the firings that occurred in the government shutdown, whether the president supports back pay for federal workers and how much revenue the tariffs are bringing in. He was also asked about how much of a financial hit the airline industry took during the shutdown, as well as the 50-year mortgage proposal.

Hassett said he believes "everybody's going to get back pay, it looks like it's part of the deal."
