Vance walked on stage at 2:46pm CT.
Opening his speech, Vance noted the shooting near the White House this afternoon.
“I want everybody who is a person of faith to say a prayer” for the two National Guardsmen who were shot this afternoon blocks from the White House, he said. Vance added that he hopes the two service members are able to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families.
“Our soldiers are the sword and shield of the United States of America,” Vance said, adding a “very personal” thanks for what they do.
