During his remarks, Trump said Black leaders have “made life more just” and praised a number of Black athletes, including Sugar Ray Robinson, Herschel Walker, Lawrence Taylor, Jim Brown and Mike Tyson. “Mike has been loyal to me. Whenever they come out, they say, ‘Trump's a racist, Trump's a racist,’” he said Tyson would say he’s not a racist, “He's my friend.”

The president pointed to his support for HBCUs, opportunity zones, criminal justice reform, crime prevention and school choice, and brought to the stage a number of speakers to talk about his work on this issues.

Trump praised the coming celebration for America’s 250th anniversary on July 4th, adding: “Black History Month is really all about American history,” prompting applause in the East Room.

While speaking of his work to rid crime from Washington, D.C., a member of the audience raised Atlanta as another city where the administration should intervene. “We could take care of Atlanta,” Trump said.

“Happy Black History Month, Happy Black History Year and Happy Black History Century,” Trump said, wrapping up his remarks at 3:59p.
