In town pool note #3 : Gathering for medal of honor ceremony

Pool is gathering: POTUS will award the medal of honor to three individuals during the East Room ceremony. It is the nation's highest medal for valor in combat. He will also address US military operations in Iran, the White House said.

The honorees are:

Master Sergeant Roderick Edmonds (posthumously), who led a group of US prisoners of war during World War II to resist Nazi demands, while warning the German guards that they needed to respect the Geneva convention.

Command Sergeant Major Terry Richardson, a platoon leader during the Vietnam War. He saved dozens of US troops by calling in tactical air strikes against the North Vietnamese Army that was attacking them, and continued for hours despite being shot in the leg.

Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis (posthumously) who came under attack at a forward operating base in Afghanistan and protected a Polish coalition forces officer during their defence of the perimeter, but was mortally wounded when the insurgent's suicide vest detonated.
