Dover AFBprovides the following information:
FAQ
The transfer cases are NOT coffins/caskets
The transfer cases are used to transport the fallen to Dover AFB
After a service member has been identified and prepared for return to his/her family, s/he is placed in a casket and transported to his/her final resting place
This processis a solemn event; not a ceremony
