POTUS and FLOTUS came out of the White House at 7:08 pm as King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima arrived in their SUV on the South Lawn drive.
The king shook hands first with the president and then the First Lady. Then the Queen shook hands with them. “Thank you for having us,” the King said.
FLOTUS wore a white dress with a black pattern. The Queen wore a burnt orange dress.
The two couples posed for photos. POTUS gave the thumbs up.
Then Dutch PM Rob Jetten joined the two couples for a photo.
“They’ve been very busy,” POTUS said, gesturing to the media.
At 7:13 pm the two couples headed inside the diplomatic room doors. At the photographers’ request, the First Lady and the queen stopped for a photo of just the two of them. POTUS stood just inside the doorway, smiling as they got their picture taken.
Note - only the TV pool and still photographers were allowed outside for the arrival. Your print pooler watched and reported this from the TV feed.
Here are pool notes from CBS’ Alexander Hunter, who was present for the arrival:
The Trumps exchanged pleasantries with the King telling what appeared to be about their trip. He then told POTUS they'd talk more later.
They posed for a photo at 7:11p. Trump giving at thumbs up and a wide smile.
They posed for another photo with the PM of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, joining them after remarked about the tulips on the grounds.
