In-town pool report #24: More on HMS Trump

A little more detail on the gift King Charles presented to POTUS near the end of his State Dinner toast. The King said the HMS Trump submarine was launched from a UK shipyard in 1944 and "served the majority of her life" attached to the Fourth Submarine Squadron of the Royal "playing a critical role during the war in the Pacific."

King Charles said he was "delighted to present to you, as a personal gift" the original bell that hung on the submarines conning tower "of your valiant namesake."

"May it stand as a testimony to our nations' shared history and shining future. And should you ever need to get hold of us, well, just give us a ring," King Charles said to applause.

The shiny bell was on a stand behind the head table, to the right of King Charles, under a cloth during his toast. When King Charles referenced the bell, an aide pulled the cloth off and Trump rose from his seat to look at it.
