In-town pool 4: Miller gaggle

White House adviser Stephen Miller reacted to Thursday's Supreme Court decisions on immigration, saying the U.S. is completely closed to asylum seekers and Haitian refugees who received temporary protected status should leave the country.

“America’s doors are fully closed to asylum seekers,” Miller said, nothing the administration has agreements with other countries to hold people while their claims are considered. He called all asylum applications at the border “fake,” denying that they ever face persecution based on race, religion or ethnicity.

"In every case, they're either criminals, benefit seekers, economic migrants, welfare seekers, etc. etc. they’re coming to join family members and so forth,” he said. "But the good news for them is that in other countries willing to take them.”

Miller also described every single undocumented immigrant as being smuggled by cartels who abuse them and force them to pay back their passage.

“The profits that they earn from that, even smuggling, goes into kidnaping, torture, sex trafficking, drug trafficking, fentanyl,” he said. "You know that when you do it and it's a sinful thing.”

Miller praised Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and cited the recent executive order to block undocumented immigrants from U.S. bank accounts.

Miller said all Haitians without their legal status in the U.S. are subject to deportation. He argued their home country was safe for them, notwithstanding a “do not travel” warning from the State Department, citing high risk of kidnapping, crime, terrorism and civil unrest. He compared the country’s crime rates to some neighborhoods of U.S. cities such as Chicago, St. Louis and Los Angeles, arguing crime was not a basis for claiming asylum.

"Haitians live in Haiti. It's not our position that Haitians should leave Haiti,” he said. “It’d be crazy for us to say that Haitians shouldn’t live in Haiti, it’s their country."
