Asked about status of Doha talks, says U.S. "sitting down with the Iranians, Qataris and with others" for "technical" negotiations.

Said talks are on status of commercial shipping and “obviously, we're worried about the nuclear issue, we're going to start talking about that.” Said “it’s still pretty early, but talks are going well.”

Question about negotiations with different factions in Iranian government:

“you've got people who actually recognize the last 47 years of their government has been a mistake, and that they need to change their relationship with the United States, with Europe, with the Gulf Arab countries. And then you've got a few people who are still kind of attach the old ways. We think we see a lot of momentum for the people who are trying to turn over a new leaf.”

Added: “But, of course, as I said to somebody earlier, if they try to rebuild that nuclear program, if they refuse to let inspections in, if they keep - if they, I should say, resume shooting at commercial vessels, which they have stopped for a few days — obviously the president still has a lot of options on the table.”

Final question was on Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s decision to strike down Trump’s birthright citizenship EO and if Vance was one of the conservatives “angry” with the justice.

Said he thinks Barrett “made a mistake” with the ruling.

“I don't know how anybody can say that if a person who is an illegal alien or a person, for example, who's pregnant and comes to the United States on a vacation, they have a baby, and all of a sudden their entire family gets the benefits of American citizenship. I don't think that's what the framers of the 14th Amendment had in mind.”

Said the case was narrowly decided, 5-4. That is incorrect. The case was 6-3, with Justice Kavanaugh concurring.

“Sometimes the Supreme Court makes mistakes, we're gonna try to correct that mistake, but nobody's perfect, including the Supreme Court.”
