Second Lady Usha Vance Announces the Final Day of Her Summer Reading Challenge

On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Second Lady Usha Vance announced that students across the country have one day left to complete her annual Summer Reading Challenge.

“This summer has flown by, and there’s just one day left to complete my Summer Reading Challenge! I’m excited to see even more students take part and send in their submissions on the final day. Students who have read 12 books this summer can visit wh.gov/read to submit their reading log and receive fun rewards for their hard work,” said Second Lady Usha Vance.

The Second Lady's Summer Reading Challenge is open to students grades K-8 who read 12 books during the summer. Thus far, the Challenge has accumulated tens of thousands of submissions from all 50 states and four U.S. territories. Friday, September 4, 2026 marks the last day that submissions for the Summer Reading Challenge will be accepted.

2026 is the second year of Ms. Vance's Summer Reading Challenge, which is a key part of her yearlong initiatives to encourage childhood literacy.
